Our Mission

ISSAQUAH DANCE THEATRE is a large, reputable and well-established performing arts conservatory. IDT offers an engaging, fun preschool dance program, accessible recreational dance program for all ages, an extensive ballet training program and high quality training in jazz, contemporary, tap, hip hop and more. We are dedicated to progressive artistic and psychological growth within each student and excellent age appropriate technical training, challenging the bodies and minds of our students in a positive and encouraging environment. Our school and amazing faculty provide a unique and positive training ground for the pre professional or recreational student, learning life skills through the discipline of dance.

ISSAQUAH DANCE THEATRE’s mission is to provide an inspirational, healthy, safe environment to enrich our children and the community through the arts. It’s so much more than just dancing! We are teaching life skills through dance, and we take this role very seriously. Put simply, dancing should be fun and for everyone! On a deeper level beyond the physical fitness, it is therapeutic, healthy, instills self-discipline, teaches commitment, and provokes inspiration, feeling and creativity. We believe in spreading positivity and kindness while doing our best to support each student to achieve his or her personal goals and to be their personal best. Positive mentoring and teaching practices can co-exist with an intense training environment for those that desire that path. It is the development of the individual that must take priority in our intent, followed by the development of the dancer and artist.

“You have all been so wonderful to my daughter and have instilled such balance and more of a love of dance than she had before. Her dream is to be a ballerina and then to be a ballet teacher. I believe that your teachers and kindness will definitely help her along her path!”

It is our goal to offer the most well rounded, healthy dancer program in the Puget Sound area- for the classical or contemporary dancer to succeed in a professional program or company, or for those who simply wish to carry the life skills learned through dance into their lives as responsible, wonderful adults.

History

IDT was established in June 2000 in Sammamish, WA by founder Alicia Parrish. From holding classes in rented facilities, to a small ballet based studio on the Sammamish Plateau, to a large building in 2005, three years later into two buildings and 5 large studios, tripling in size, most recently relocating in 2015 to our own, two story facility! The story and magic continues over the years, and we are so grateful!
It was with a strong, clear vision for the school based on integrity and an excellent team of staff, teachers, supportive parents and students over the years that has allowed for this amazing growth.

Welcome and enjoy your time with IDT!

“Thank you for giving my daughter the opportunity, encouragement and instruction that allowed her to experience growth and joy… I’m very pleased as a parent and my daughter and I look forward to her participating in more of your classes in the coming months and years.”

“There is so much talent in the school — in the students as well as the teachers! We look forward to many years with our son being a part of the IDT family. Thank you!”
